Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to have a horse to attend a clinic?
No! We offer an auditing option for those who may not yet have a horse of their own or who can’t bring their horse to one of our clinic locations. Auditing is an excellent way to get a feel for the philosophy for those who would like to learn more, but don’t have a horse they can bring at this time.
Can I work with a horse that isn’t my own at a clinic or in an individual intensive?
You can work with a horse that you have an existing relationship with already, i.e. a long-term lease. But because this work is deeply relational, we do not support the use of horses to experience a clinic if there is no intention or means of carrying out the relationship in the long-term.
How are clinics structured?
Clinics usually run three days, Friday through Sunday.
The first day starts with an introduction to the philosophy, followed by initial person-to-person experiential exercises to start introducing concepts surrounding communication through body language, and lastly introducing the horses in the afternoon.
Participants attending with their horses receive five sessions over the course of the weekend, which focus on the individual themes arising between each horse-human pair, and putting into practice what we learn in the person-to-person exercises surrounding clear communication via body language and energetic presence.
Auditors are observing all sessions with the horses, and are participating in all person-to-person exercises throughout the weekend.
Can I host a clinic at my barn?
Yes! All you need to host a clinic is an arena, seating for auditors, restrooms, shelter from the elements depending on time of year, and potential accommodations for horses hauling in for the clinic (unless you can fill a clinic with horses already residing at your barn). We can accommodate between 4-6 participants with horses per clinic, as well as up to 10 auditors.
In addition, we ask that we are able to reserve these facilities for the duration of the clinic in order to allow for an undisturbed clinic experience for all participants.
I am really struggling with my horse, and can’t wait until the next clinic. Can I schedule something sooner?

Do I need to be experienced with horses to start learning Being with Horses?
No! All you need is a desire to learn more about how to connect with horses in a non-dominant , compassionate way. If you do not currently have a horse of your own, but you want to learn this approach we highly recommend auditing one of our clinics.
