Being with horses || Intensive Course 2017

Impressions from Carla’s internship with Sabine and Dan in 2017.

Each horse and owner brought something different to the course, and it was incredible to witness these special relationships and how they developed throughout time. Every session with every horse/person was unique and based on what was relevant or needed for the horse at that time. Therefore, none of this can be used or applied as a method.

Joker - (Gypsy Vanner) Very sensitive, smart, and kind. His owner started getting him used to a rider by feeding him over his back, and in the end her daughter was able to be led around the arena on him, as it is better for him to carry someone smaller in the beginning. His owner also developed more clarity and grounded presence during groundwork and every day interactions, allowing Joker to feel more relaxed and safe.

Sionga - (Arabian-Haflinger Mix) This mare had served as school horse her entire life. She is incredibly strong and high-ranking. Her owner, who had a strong bond to her already, showed her during this course that she did not have to work anymore, and that being with a human could be relaxing and enjoyable. Together they went on a few short rides, and did short and energetic groundwork, as well as several trauma sessions.

Pacco - (Quarter-Trotter Mix) Based on his character, Pacco can be quite difficult. He is sensitive, skeptical, cool, and wild, which can make him unpredictable at times. His owner has built a strong and beautiful relationship with him, and because of this Pacco has been able to let go of his trauma and become the horse he would have been before people tried to break him in his early years. They are now able to ride through the forest together, and are doing a lot of relaxing groundwork, with some occasional fun mixed in.

Almrose (Haflinger mare) She was a broodmare, and used in a riding school, until she started bolting. She is slowly opening up to her owner, who is giving her the calm and grounded presence she needs.

Raudur - (Chestnut Icelandic Horse) He is very sensitive and likes to run. He likes going on fast rides through the woods with his owner, and sometimes has difficulties relaxing, which inhibits him from developing more muscles on his back and a healthier way of carrying himself and his owner. Together they developed relaxation and self-carriage during the course.

Tandri - (Dark Bay Icelandic Horse) He is a real chef, and often will only put energy into something if he fully believes it is worth his effort. Him and his owner have built a strong relationship, and together they go on rides through the woods, and do short, energetic, and motivating groundwork, sometimes including beautiful half passes.
